Tricks for Windows vista and xp

1) If The Computer is Shutting Down Slowly

Slow shut down time on a Windows computer is typically due to the fact that the operating system must end programs in a clean and safe manner. Sometimes, Windows will get "hung" waiting for an application to shut down. You can force Windows to shut down programs quickly at shut down and thereby decrease your shut down time. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open Registry Editor by going to START-RUN and typing REGEDIT.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP and look for AutoEndTasks.
3. Change the value of AutoEndTaks to 1.

2) Restricting Anonymous Access (Very Important)

Did you know that a hacker could list the user names on your computer, simply by connecting to what are known as null shares on your Windows computer? For example, open a command prompt and run this command:

net use \\[computername]\ipc$ "" /user:""

Replace [computername] with your actual computer name. You've just logged into your computer anonymously and can use tools to list your user names. The IPC$ share is used with temporary connections between clients and servers by using named pipes for communication among network programs. It is primarily used for to remotely administer network servers.

To disable anonymous shares, follow these steps:

1. Open Registry Editor by clicking Start->Run and typing regedit in the Run box
2. Navigate to the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa.
3. Double click the value restrictanonymous and change the value from 0 to 2.

If this registry value does not exists, create a new one.

3) Speeding Up Your Boot Sequence

You can speed up your computer's boot up sequence by defragmenting all key boot files. To do this, follow these simple steps:

1. Open Registry Editor by going to START-RUN and typing REGEDIT.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \Dfrg \ BootOptimizeFunction.
3. In right hand panel look for Enable. Double click it and set it 'Y' for enable. This is the way I have it set on my computer. This will help speedup boot time.

4) How to Repair Internet Explorer

In Windows XP, you can reinstall Internet Explorer by following these steps:

1. Insert your Windows XP CD
2. Click Start > Run
3. In the Run box, enter the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

2012 Doomsday Bullshit

In the solar system, gravity causes the sun and planets to share the same plane of orbit. In the night sky, this plane is known as the ecliptic. The twelve Zodiac constellations move along or near the ecliptic, and over time, appear to recede counterclockwise one degree every 72 years - that is, from our perspective looking up from the ground. This movement is attributed to a slight wobble in the earth's axis as it spins. As a result, approximately every 2160 years, the constellation visible on the early morning of the spring equinox changes. This signals the end of one astrological age (currently the Age of Pisces) and the beginning of another (Age of Aquarius). Over the course of 26,000 years, the precession of the equinoxes makes one full circuit around the ecliptic.
This phenomenon underlies the principle of "galactic alignment", a rarely occurring intersection of the earth, sun and galactic equator. The next alignment is claimed (wrongly, according to Maya scholars) to coincide with the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar, which is claimed (wrongly again) to coincide with the winter solstice of December 2012. Former software engineer John Major Jenkins is credited with the premise that the classical Mayans anticipated this conjunction and celebrated it as the harbinger of a profound spiritual transition for mankind.

The right hand rule for magnetic force

The right-hand rule for magnetic force

A charged particle moving through a region of magnetic field experiences a magnetic force. This force is directed perpendicular to both the velocity vector and the magnetic field vector at the point of interaction. The requirement that the force be perpendicular to both of the other vectors specifies the direction of the force to within an algebraic sign. This algebraic sign is determined by the right-hand rule. To employ the right-hand rule:
  1. Spread your right thumb and index finger apart by 90 degrees.
  2. Bend your middle finger so that it is perpendicular to your thumb and index finger.
  3. Orient your hand so that your thumb points in the direction of the velocity and your index finger in the direction of the magnetic field.

If the charge is positive, your middle finger is now pointing in the direction of the force as shown.

If the charge is negative, the force is in the direction opposite your middle finger.

How do u make studying a priority Or How can one study properly?

Learning how to study in college is very important. And with a few tips, it won’t be that difficult or time consuming to succeed.

The key tip is using your time efficiently.
You don’t need to have “all-night” study sessions. Actually these are counter productive. You’re busy in college, so make every hour you study a productive hour.

What should you study? You need to attend all your classes and take good notes. This should help your prioritize which materials, readings, or assignments to review. You should also be aware of the type of class and test you are preparing for. Is it an in-class essay, multiple choice, problem solving, or some other kind of exam? Is the class political science, psychology, math, or science? For social science classes, like political science, the key is to study the major concepts. For math and science classes, you need to understand the formulas and the concepts. By focusing on what you need to know along general themes, compared to memorizing every detail, you are more likely to recall what you need during exams.

How do you study?
First, schedule time everyday to study. You want to study in small increments of no longer than 90 minutes at a time. I find it most effective to spread these short, intense study periods over a few days. Thus, plan to study at least four to five days in advance of major exams.

When you read the assigned readings, highlight the important concepts. When it is time to study, review your class notes and the highlights from your readings. The key again is to understand the broad concepts and ideas.

I don’t recommend studying in groups except where you are having difficulty understanding the concepts.
If you understand the concepts of the class and you just need to review and memorize them, study groups can be more of a distraction than help. I have learned from my experiences that when students from the same class get together, they tend to complain more about the professor, the assignment, or their classmates than do actual studying. If you don’t understand the concepts for the class, a study group may help you.
However, I would recommend talking with the professor about your questions or getting some assistance from someone who has already taken the class over a study group.

When should you study? The best time to study is during the day. I know that we have most of our free time in the evenings, but we do not comprehend and absorb material in the evenings as well as during the day. Try to schedule an hour or two during the day to study. This can be in between classes, first thing in the morning, or before dinner.

Schedule your studying (and all your class assignments) to complete some each day. If you spread your studying over a week before a big exam, reviewing materials each day, you will have better retention than trying to cram everything in the night before. This will also give you a chance to review material that seems more difficult or identify questions to bring to the professor before the exam.

Where do you study? I highly recommend studying in a quiet area. Some folks tell me they study better with the television on or listening to their I-Pod. I disagree! It is very easy for your mind to wander. Having some background entertainment can easily pull you away from reading or studying your notes.

Avoid studying in your dorm or bedroom; specifically stay out of bed when studying. Find a quiet space in the library, campus center, or other place on campus free of distractions. You can also try finding quiet space in the local public library. You can concentrate more in the library as you can focus and not be distracted by your surroundings.

Studying is a habit like everything else we do every day. It all comes down to how much you want it.
